SIG-SDP (Sparse Interference Graph-Aided Semidefinite Programming)

Modern factories, autonomous vehicles, and industrial robots all depend on a constant stream of wireless data. As more devices come online, ensuring that critical information arrives on time without interference becomes increasingly challenging.

FCP researchers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), together with researchers from the University of Sydney and the University of Adelaide, have developed 𝗦𝗜𝗚-𝗦𝗗𝗣 (𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵-𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴), a novel approach that helps large-scale wireless networks coordinate communications more efficiently while maintaining the reliability required for time-sensitive industrial applications.

The key insight is that wireless interference graphs are naturally sparse and distant devices often have negligible or unmeasurable interference with one another. By focusing computation on the relatively small set of interfering device pairs and excluding non-interfering pairs, the proposed SIG-SDP framework achieves highly scalable scheduling with significantly lower computational complexity.

The result is a highly scalable framework that can support large numbers of connected devices while reducing communication delays. Simulations showed that the proposed approach achieved up to 𝟭𝟬× 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟬× 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀, and 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟬𝟬× 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀.

As industries move toward AI-driven automation, smart manufacturing, and massive-scale Industrial IoT deployments, innovations like SIG-SDP provide the foundations needed to ensure reliable, real-time wireless communications at scale.
